The Golf

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Mount Juliet golf course first opened in 1991 with a friendly match between Jack Nicklaus and Christy O’Connor Snr. Since then, the course has established itself as a premier venue for top professional and leisure golfers from around the world. This was highlighted when Mount Juliet played host to golfing legends Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Pádraig Harrington for the WGC American Express Golfing Championship in September 2002 - and again in 2004.

A Memorable Golf Course

Set in the rolling pastures and woodland of Ireland’s sunny South East, the course is both captivating and memorable. Tiger Woods’ declaration that Mount Juliet presented ‘perfect fairways’ and the ‘best greens we’ve putted on all year’, was a rich tribute to the stature of Ireland’s leading parkland golf course. With some slight extensions and new features since opening, Mount Juliet Golf Course has improved an already outstanding layout, in its ongoing pursuit of golfing excellence. Mount Juliet has been recently voted Ireland's Best Parkland Golf Course.

Any game on Mount Juliet’s Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is memorable but there are some holes that are harder to forget. The stunning 3rd hole, for example, a par 3 taken from an elevated tee towards a green that’s guarded by a natural stream and lake … both of which have claimed many balls in their illustrious history. The 10th hole is a par 5 with a group of trees in the way, ready to test a golfer’s strategy. The final hole is the clincher. A long, par 4, with water all down the left side and a very narrow approach to the green. Many a nail-biting tournament has been decided here.

The 7,300 yard, par 72 layout combines many features - rolling fairways, water hazards, contoured greens - all of which blend superbly into the spectacular landscapes surrounding this unique estate.

We have been privileged enough to host several major tournaments here and each one teaches us lessons and gives us ideas. Before The American Express Golf Championship came in September 2002, we invited Jack Nicklaus’s design team over to add some extensions and new features – all part of our ongoing pursuit of golfing excellence. The American Express Championship was back again in 2004.

Mount Juliet Golf Club has hosted three Irish Open Tournaments, in 1993, 1994 and 1995 and the Shell Wonderful World of Golf match between Tom Watson and Fred Couples took place here in 1998.
