Swansea Bay Golf Club
This historic and prestigious Golf Club founded in 1892 and constructed on the estate then owned by the Earl of Jersey, still remains proprietary owned today. This links course is a demanding Par 72, SSS 72 of some 6447 yards and is a true test to every golfer, with tight lies and undulating fairways with numerous natural dunes to contend with.
The Greens are very true and responsive and are classed as one of the best in the area all year round. The 18th green that sits proud at the front of the Clubhouse makes its presence felt by its colossal length of 60 yards. Hole 9 and 11 run parallel with the river Neath, with the 9th displaying a striking tidal inlet known as the Gulch, which is yet another unique and natural feature of this course.
The imposing, traditional, black and white Clubhouse is unmistakable as it sits at the gateway to Swansea. It was opened in 1902 by the Earl of Jersey and an original photograph depicting this grand occasion can be seen dominating the dining room. The balcony gives a bird’s eye view of numerous holes enjoyed by many, especially on a warm summer’s day.
Pennard Golf Club
For over 100 years golfers have enjoyed the beautiful links course and warm hospitality that Pennard has to offer. Founded in 1896 the Club has a proud heritage and today is a private members’ club with an unassuming style, which conceals a very special place for both members and visitors to enjoy the game we love.
Pennard is a magnificent links course situated 8 miles west of Swansea, with spectacular views over Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula, designated the UK’s first area of outstanding natural beauty. Golf has been played at Pennard since 1896, although the course owes most of its appeal today first to James Braid and then to C.K. Cotton. The holes are routed over classically undulating and tumbling links land, full of hummocks, hillocks and hollows with dunes large and small and carefully placed revetted bunkers, exactly what we might hope to find beside the shore. Yet this exceptional terrain is not beside the shore – it is 200 feet above sea level. No wonder Pennard is known as “The Links in the Sky”
Asburnham Golf Club
Machynys Peninsula Golf & Country Club
Machynys is named after a monastery, built on the Machynys Peninsula by St Piro during the 6th century. Translated from the Welsh language ‘Machynys’ means ‘Monks Island’ a meditative Island retreat. Prior to the erection of the Sea defence wall Machynys was inundated with the incoming tide creating Monks Island on which the monastery sat.
Monk’s Island is a Nicklaus designed 7121 yard modern links golf course, Elemis Premier Spa, Gym and Health Club featuring first class food in Machynys Bar and Brasserie, complete with Golf Academy and Driving Range.
Since opening in 2005 Machynys has been privileged to have hosted an unprecedented 12 championships, including 2 R&A Open Championships and 4 Ryder Cup Wales LET Championships of Europe. The golf course has been recognised as an Open qualifying venue.
