Old Thorns Golf Course

Overview

Old Thorns Golf Course is located in the Hampshire countryside within the South Downs National Park. It’s a stunning Peter Alliss-designed 18-hole championship course that has established itself as one of the greatest golf destinations in southern England.

Opened in 2008 and upgraded in recent years, this par-72 layout stretches to 6,579 yards from the championship tees and offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for golfers of all abilities.

Course Layout and Challenges at Old Thorns Golf Course

This course flows through woods, lakes, and hilly areas. It requires careful thinking, good strategy, and creative shots. Water comes into play on ten holes, and bunkers and hard greens can make things tough if you’re not careful with your approach. There are multiple tee options on each hole, making it fun for both newer and more experienced players. When played from the back tees, it can still challenge even the best golfers.

Signature Holes at Old Thorns Golf Course

Hole 4 is a breathtaking par-3 played from an elevated tee across a lake to a peninsula green. It is often cited as one of the most scenic holes in Hampshire.

Hole 12 is the demanding par-4 “Quarry Hole,” where the tee shot must carry a deep ravine before climbing to a well-guarded green

Hole 17 is a risk-reward par-5 that tempts big hitters to go for the green in two over water, with the iconic Old Thorns manor house providing a stunning backdrop.

Facilities at Old Thorns Golf Course

The facilities include a golf academy with covered driving range bays, short-game area and custom fitting studio powered by leading brands. The modern clubhouse features a pro shop, spike bar and the King’s Carvery Restaurant overlooking the 18th green.
