Aguilón Golf Course

Aguilon Golf is in Pulpi, Almeria, and is known as one of the best golf courses in Europe. Called the best desert golf course in Europe by golf magazines, it has stunning views of the Aguilon Mountains and Pulpi Bay. Built by Stirling & Martin Architects and opened in 2008, it uses the natural land to create a fun and challenging course for golfers.

Aguilon Golf Course Layout

Aguilon Golf has an 18-hole, par-70 layout and measures about 5,573 meters from the back tees. The course has three long holes (par 5), five short holes (par 3), and ten medium holes (par 4). The landscape looks like a desert, like the ones in Arizona.

Players can select from multiple tee boxes; often five or six per hole, with some offering up to seven. This allows customisation based on skill level. This flexibility ensures accessibility while maintaining the integrity of the design.

Course Challenges

Aguilon Golf is a tough course with over 100 bunkers, six large lakes, and numerous natural ravines that demand precision and strategy. The steep slopes, valleys, and barrancos in the land make it easy to get into trouble if you miss a shot.

The course is great for skilled golfers; it challenges low-handicap golfers from the white tees while offering more forgiving options for others. The fast greens and thefairway moulding make each game a real test of your skills and choices.

Aguilon Golf Signature Holes

One of the most memorable holes is the 14th, a long par-5 (454 meters) from the yellow tees. The green sits atop a wall, requiring bold and accurate shots. Considered one of Spain’s best par-5s due to its design and difficulty.

Other notable holes, such as the par-4 15th and 16th, reward precise play with opportunities to reach the green in regulation.

Aguilon Golf has many facilities to enhance your visit. The clubhouse is a place to relax, meet others, and join events. You can stay in the nearby country houses. Golfers can access a driving range, use locker rooms, and rent trolleys (electric or manual) and clubs. These services make your day smoother and more pleasant, whether you are practising or resting after your game.

Hosted Tournaments and Events

Aguilon Golf is well known for holding golf competitions. It hosted the 2024 Alps de Andalucía. It was the location for the Campeonato de España Profesionales Senior y Supersenior Costa de Almería. Some past events include the 2022 Aguilon Golf Tournament, held in memory of JA Carrasco, and regular monthly contests like the Torneo Comienza La Fiesta in August 2022.
