The Torrance Course

Overview

The Torrance Course at Fairmont St Andrews is a golf course that welcomes golfers of all skill levels. It sits high on the cliffs, giving you beautiful views of St Andrews Bay. This course offers a classic Scottish links golf experience, but with a fresh, modern feel. With its stunning scenery and traditional design, The Torrance Course is a must-play if you’re on a golf holiday in Scotland!

The golf course, created by former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance, has a classic out-and-back design. In the first half, golfers move away from the clubhouse, and then the course brings them back along the coastline. Players will find deep bunkers, rolling fairways, and quick, smooth greens that encourage careful shots and smart strategies.

Challenging Yet Playable

The course is 7,200 yards long from the championship tees, but there are different tee options to make it fun for players of all skill levels. The wind is an important factor, especially on the back nine, where coastal breezes challenge players to think creatively about their shots. This course rewards players who choose their clubs wisely and play for position rather than just trying to hit the ball as far as they can.

Signature Holes

The 17th hole, a long par 4 played along the clifftops, is the undisputed signature hole. With the North Sea on your right and a narrow green protected by bunkers, it’s both a visual delight and a stern test. The par-3 8th, played downhill with dramatic sea views, also ranks as a highlight.
