Course Layout at Lakewood Golf Club

Lakewood Golf Club offers two 18-hole championship courses: the Dogwood and the Azalea, making a total of 36 holes of par-72 golf. The Dogwood course is about 7,104 yards long and goes through tall pine trees, magnolias, and ancient live oak trees, creating a classic park-like atmosphere.

On the other hand, the Azalea course features gently rolling fairways lined with colourful azalea flowers, along with spring-fed lakes and winding streams. Both courses have five sets of tees, which makes them great for players of all skill levels. You can enjoy a round while experiencing a professional-grade layout.

Recent updates in 2018 and 2019 added TifEagle Ultradwarf greens and Celebration Bermuda grass, making the courses even more enjoyable to play on and beautiful to look at all year round.

Lakewood Challenges

Playing at Lakewood Golf Club in Alabama offers golfers many challenges that make the game exciting. On the Dogwood course, there are water hazards near many greens that require accurate shots. The winds from Mobile Bay can also change how your ball flies, especially on the holes that are more open. The Azalea course brings its own tests with narrow fairways and hilly ground, making it important to choose the right club to avoid bunkers and tricky areas. These features provide a great challenge for experienced golfers, while beginners can still have fun without too much difficulty.

Signature Holes That Define the Experience

Lakewood Golf Club offers some amazing holes that showcase the best of Alabama golf. On the Azalea course, the 14th hole is a thrilling par-5 with a green that sits on a peninsula surrounded by a four-acre lake. This hole encourages players to take risks for a chance at an eagle! The Dogwood course also has great par-3 holes, like the third hole, where water surrounds the green, testing your short-game skills. Another fan-favourite is the 17th hole on Azalea, which requires precise shots and is surrounded by beautiful trees, adding to the challenge. These memorable holes will make every round at Lakewood a fantastic experience!
