The Westin Kierland Golf Club

Overview

Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, The Westin Kierland Golf Club offers a unique desert golf experience for players of all skill levels. This 27-hole course, managed by Troon and designed by Scott Miller, combines natural beauty with strategic play.

Known as one of the best public golf courses in Phoenix/Scottsdale, it offers stunning views of the McDowell Mountains, Pinnacle Peak, and the surrounding desert. Whether you want a relaxing game or a tougher challenge, this golf club provides an enjoyable experience.

The Westin Kierland Golf Club Layout

The layout has three distinct nine-hole courses—Acacia, Ironwood, and Mesquite—that can be combined in various ways to create an 18-hole game. Each loop is over 3,400 yards long, and the full 18 holes can be up to 7,017 yards.

Emerald green fairways wind through desert grasses, with lakes, dry stream beds, and native trees along the way. Multiple tee boxes ensure accessibility, and varying heights and punchbowl-like contours add visual and tactical interest.

Course Challenges

Players face many challenges that test precision and strategy. More than 300 bunkers guard the fairways and greens, so players need to be accurate. The Tif-Eagle Bermuda greens have gentle slopes and speed variations, making putting important.

Water hazards come into play on numerous holes, particularly on the Acacia and Ironwood nines, where lakes and dry stream beds increase the difficulty. Areas of desert and changes in height also make the game more interesting, but the course remains fair for all players.

Signature Holes at The Westin Kierland Golf Club

Some of the most memorable parts of the course are its signature holes.

The ninth hole on the Acacia course is a par-5 finisher. It’s a challenging hole with water along the entire left side and a well-bunkered green. This iconic hole offers both beauty and tension.

Additionally, the fifth hole on the Ironwood course is a par-3 with elevated tees and wide mountain views. It is known as a “secret signature” for its scenic drop-shot design and strategic island-like green.

These holes show how the course blends aesthetics and playability.
