Nicklaus Signature Course

Overview

The Nicklaus Signature Course at St Mellion Estate stands as one of the finest golf courses in Europe and a true bucket-list destination for golfers. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this was his first Signature Course in Europe, opening for play in 1988.

It remains one of the most famous and respected inland layouts in the United Kingdom, offering a great golfing experience in the Cornish countryside.

Course Layout and Challenges

The Nicklaus Signature Course is 6,284 yards long, has a par of 72, and a slope index of 133. It offers a fair but challenging game for golfers of varying abilities.

Despite its modest yardage by modern standards, the layout rewards precision, strategic thinking, and shot-making ability. Players will find water hazards, bunkers, and other features on each of the 18 holes.

The course has elevation changes and rolling terrain, creating memorable playing conditions.

A particular highlight is Nicklaus’s own version of Amen Corner on holes 10, 11, and 12, which delivers a thrilling sequence and serves as a centrepiece of this golf course.

The design lets higher handicappers and shorter hitters enjoy the game while still challenging skilled players.

Signature Holes

Several holes stand out for their excellent quality and challenge. The par-3 11th hole is widely recognised as a signature feature, offering a daunting yet stunning test. Additional holes include the par-4 5th and the par-4 12th. Every hole offers distinct character and strategic interest.

Facilities and Resort Experience

St Mellion Estate delivers a complete golfing experience with world-class facilities. Guests benefit from luxurious accommodation, a relaxing spa, fine dining options, and practice amenities.

The resort in Cornwall creates an ideal environment for golf breaks, society days, and corporate events. The Nicklaus Signature Course pairs beautifully with the Kernow Resort Course, providing 36 holes of exceptional golf.

Hosted Tournaments

The course has a strong history of hosting golf tournaments, including 14 European Tour tournaments. It has welcomed the Benson & Hedges International Open several times.
