The Roman Road Course
Overview
The Roman Road Course at Celtic Manor Resort is a top golfing spot in the Usk Valley in South Wales. It is one of three championship courses at the resort and offers a fun round of golf with its smart layout, lovely views, and rich history of tournaments. This impressive par-70 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1995. Since then, it has become a favourite for both beginners and experienced players.
Course Layout
The Roman Road Course is a 6,515-yard golf course located in the countryside. It offers a fun and challenging experience with wide fairways that have gentle hills and are surrounded by tall, mature trees. The course gets its name from the ancient Roman road that runs through the resort, adding an interesting historical touch to your game.
Standout Holes
Golfers encounter a few challenges on Roman Road. The course features carefully placed bunkers and water hazards that require accurate shots. The elevated tees and greens provide amazing views of the Severn Estuary, making your game even more enjoyable. One of the most famous holes is the par-4 10th. You’ll need a precise drive followed by a tricky shot to reach the green. As you finish your round, holes 17 and 18 will really test your skills and nerves, adding excitement to the end of your game.
Tournaments
The Roman Road has been the site of many golf tournaments, like the Wales Open and the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup. It often brings in golfers from around the world, which helps make Celtic Manor a leading place for golf.
