West Course
Overview
Play golf at the West Course at East Sussex National Golf Club. This 18-hole par-72 championship course is 7,154 yards long from the back tees. It is designed to test your skills while you enjoy the beautiful natural setting.
The course, designed by Robert E. Cupp, winds through old oak woodlands, ponds, and small streams. It offers a blend of challenge and natural beauty in the Sussex countryside near Uckfield.
West Course Layout and Challenges
The West Course offers a more scenic parkland experience than the East Course. Tree-lined fairways demand accurate driving, while gentle elevation changes, bunkers, and water hazards test every aspect of your game.
Players encounter a variety of hole types, from risk-reward par 5s to tough par 3s over water or into elevated greens. The course is best for golfers who plan their shots, not just sheer power. It suits all skill levels, but still challenges low handicappers.
USGA-specification greens ensure excellent year-round putting surfaces with excellent drainage. Excellent conditioning, combined with strategic bunkering and subtle contours, delivers a consistently high-quality playing experience that rivals the best UK golf courses.
Signature Holes
Several holes make the West Course special. The 10th hole is a favourite and a signature challenge. It’s a beautiful yet testing hole that highlights the course’s blend of aesthetics and difficulty.
Additional holes, like the 12th, require you to avoid trouble and think about your next shot. Each hole offers unique visuals and playing characteristics, ensuring no two feel alike.
East Sussex National Facilities
East Sussex National Golf Resort complements the West Course with its amenities. The Pro Shop has quality golf equipment, apparel, and helpful advice. The Golf Academy includes a small three-hole course.
After your game, you can relax in the clubhouse. The resort also has a hotel, spa, restaurants, and meeting rooms, making it a good choice for golf breaks, societies, or business events.
Hosted Tournaments
While the East Course hosted the European Open Championship in 1993 and 1994, the West Course also has a strong history with tournaments. It has hosted Challenge Tour events and European Tour qualifying rounds, attracting many top golfers.
