Moorland Course
Overview
Located in Morley, Derbyshire, the Moorland Course at Breadsall Priory Golf & Country Club offers a fun and challenging round of golf near the Peak District. Designed by Donald Steel in 1991/1992, this 18-hole, par-70 course is about 6,094 yards from the white tees.
The course offers a mix of open heathland and parkland holes, scenic views of the countryside, and is playable year-round due to good drainage.
Moorland Course Layout and Design
The Moorland Course at Breadsall Priory rewards careful play more than raw distance. Mature woodland lines many fairways, while bunkers, subtle doglegs, and contoured greens test every aspect of your game.
The front nine begins with a par-3 opener (178 yards from the whites), followed by a lengthy uphill par-4 second (stroke index 2). It then offers several shorter par-4s and approachable par-3s, providing birdie opportunities. The ninth hole is an uphill par-5 with a tree in the middle and a blind approach.
The back nine maintains this balance with risk-reward opportunities, such as drivable or near-drivable short par-4s. Players appreciate the course’s playability for all skill levels, with reachable par-5s and varied par-3s from different elevations.
Signature Holes on the Moorland Course
Several standout holes define the Moorland Course experience. The 14th hole, a 145-yard par-3 from an elevated tee, serves as a classic signature hole. It demands precise club selection to navigate bunkers on both sides and a heavily sloping green (back-to-front and right-to-left).
Another highlight is the 12th, a 400+ yard par-4 with a slight dogleg, tall trees guarding the landing area, and bunkers flanking the green. The 13th (stroke index 1) offers one of the tightest drives.
Facilities
Amenities include a floodlit driving range with indoor and outdoor bays, a short game area with bunkers, a putting green, and TrackMan technology for lessons. The pro shop offers equipment and attire, while rental buggies, clubs, and trolleys are available.
After your round, relax in the clubhouse with its bar and restaurant options, including the Cast Iron Bar and Grill. Guests also enjoy access to the on-site leisure club, spa, and luxury accommodation, making it ideal for golf breaks.
