Adare Manor Golf Course

Overview

Adare Manor Golf Course stands as one of the best golf courses in Ireland. Found on the old Adare Manor estate in County Limerick, the course offers beautiful scenery and championship-standard design.
Tom Fazio redesigned it in 2016 and 2017, building on the original 1995 layout by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
The course is about 7,509 yards from the championship tees and plays to a par of 72. Multiple teeing options ensure accessibility for golfers of every skill level while preserving a true test of precision and strategy.

Adare Manor Golf Layout

The modern routing remains true to the original corridor yet features completely rebuilt tees, greens, bunkers and water features.

Engineers added over 220,000 tons of sand and SubAir systems beneath every green to keep the playing surfaces firm and playable in all kinds of Irish weather.

Mature trees frame many holes, while the River Maigue winds through the property, creating varied views of the Gothic manor house and the Desmond Castle ruins.

Challenges on the Adare Manor Golf Course

The main challenges lie in the elevated, contoured greens and well-placed hazards. With only 42 bunkers, the course rewards positioning rather than sheer power. Water comes into play on numerous holes, particularly on the back nine.

Players need to aim their shots carefully, as missing the greens can make the next shot tough. The firm fairways let golfers play boldly. The design demands club selection and course management throughout.

Memorable Holes

The closing stretch ranks among the most memorable sequences in Irish golf.

The short par-4 15th runs alongside the River Maigue with the manor house visible on the opposite bank, presenting a risk-reward decision off the tee.

The par-3 16th requires a carry over water to a massive green that stretches more than 60 metres in length.

The par-5 18th provides a fitting finish: the river sits along the right side, the green is angled for approach, and the manor rises as a backdrop.

Earlier holes, including the bunkerless par-3 11th and the 14th with its lake-edged green and castle views, further elevate the round.
