Alferini Golf Course
Overview
Explore the Alferini Golf Course at Villa Padierna Golf Club, located on the Costa del Sol near Marbella. This 18-hole, par-73 course covers 6,641 metres through the hills of Benahavís, offering golfers a memorable experience with beautiful views.
Designed by Antonio Garcia Garrido and opened in 2007, Alferini is the longest and most difficult of the resort’s three courses. It is a great choice for experienced players who want a real challenge in a stunning Mediterranean setting.
Course Layout
The course follows the topography of the mountainside, going down into green valleys on the front nine holes and up to high points on the back nine. Cypress trees line some fairways, and four large lakes add water hazards on multiple holes. Players need to think carefully about their shots.
The fairways are wide but shaped to make play interesting, and the sloping greens reward accurate shots. Five sets of tees adapt the experience for players of varying abilities, yet it still presents a real challenge for experienced golfers.
Many players enjoy the quiet, open feel of the course and the panoramic views of the sea and mountains from most holes. A round here usually takes about five hours.
Course Challenges
The Alferini Golf Course at Villa Padierna Golf Club offers many challenges. Long par-4s and par-5s require pinpoint accuracy off the tee. Travines, bunkers, and height changes across the course can be costly.
The hilly terrain makes the course both physically and mentally tough, so golfers need to think carefully as they play. The smooth greens make putting harder because of their gentle slopes.
This technical design elevates the experience beyond typical Costa del Sol courses, earning praise as one of Spain’s most rewarding championship tests.
Signature holes
Signature holes define the memorable character of Alferini Golf Course. The 8th, a 206-metre par-3, requires a precise carry over a guarding pond to a shallow green, blending beauty and risk. Hole 14 is also another iconic par-3 in a lovely spot and is known for being great and challenging.
The 18th hole is the last one and has wide views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar, and Africa. It is a great way to finish, testing both confidence and skill with a shot from a high starting point.
Facilities
The Alferini Golf Course at Villa Padierna Golf Club has facilities for all visitors. There is a clubhouse, a pro shop, a golf academy, and a large practice area for players of every level. Renting a golf buggy is recommended because of the hills. You can also hire a caddie or rent equipment to make your round easier.
The course is part of the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace resort, which also offers great food, spa treatments, and comfortable rooms for a Sapin golf holiday.
Hosted Tournaments
Alferini Golf Course is known for hosting prestigious golf events. In 2022, it welcomed the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, the last event of the Ladies European Tour season. The course was also nominated for the Ladies European Tour Spain’s Best Golf Course Award, showing it is one of the top courses in Europe.
