Championship Old Course

Overview

The Championship Old Course at St. Pierre Country Club is a place to play golf in South Wales. Located in 400 acres of beautiful parkland, this course offers a fun experience for golfers of all skill levels. It was designed by Ken Cotton and later improved by C.K. Cotton. The course features old trees, strategically placed bunkers, and natural water hazards, making it both beautiful and challenging for all who play.

Course Layout

The Old Course is one of the best-loved golf courses in Wales. It features a classic parkland layout with gently rolling fairways and smooth, fast greens. The course is a little over 7,000 yards long from the championship tees, so players need to be precise and smart about their shots. The front nine holes feature wide landing areas, allowing players to get into the game comfortably. However, the back nine holes become much tougher, where accuracy and a good strategy are crucial.

Standout Holes

Signature holes include the par-3 17th, a hole played over water to a narrow green framed by mature woodland. Another highlight is the par-4 18th, offering a dramatic finish in view of the 14th-century manor house now serving as the clubhouse.

Facilities

Golfers can take advantage of practice areas. These include a driving range, a putting green, and a spot for short games. After playing, you can relax in the clubhouse. It offers great food and beautiful views of the countryside all around.

Tournaments

Over the years, the Championship Old Course has been home to events like the Solheim Cup in 1996, as well as many European Tour and Senior Tour competitions. Its reputation and scenery make it a must-play for any golfer visiting Wales.
