Eden Course

Overview

The Eden Course at St. Andrews offers a traditional links experience, blending coastal beauty with thoughtful design. Located beside the world-famous Old Course, this gem is part of the historic St. Andrews Links Trust and remains a favourite among golfers wanting variety and challenge in the Home of Golf.

Course Layout

Designed by the renowned Harry Colt in 1914, the Eden Course reflects his hallmark style—strategic bunkering, natural contours, and clever use of the terrain. The layout rewards accurate play and clever course management, rather than sheer power. It’s a course where precision pays off and every shot counts.

Course Design

With a par of 70 and stretching just over 6,250 yards, the Eden Course may seem modest by modern standards, but don’t be fooled. The prevailing coastal winds and fast-running fairways add layers of complexity. Players must be ready for uneven lies, firm greens, and deep revetted bunkers that guard many of the approach shots.

Standout Holes

Several holes stand out for their character. The par-4 2nd hole, with its dogleg and bunkers in play, demands precision from the tee. The 8th hole, a par-3 known as “Cottage,” is a favourite among visitors for its classic Colt design, guarded by bunkers and influenced by the breeze. The back nine offers a blend of scoring chances and stern tests, particularly the 14th and 15th holes, where positioning is everything.

Facilities

Facilities at the Eden Course include a clubhouse with locker rooms, a café, and a pro shop. It’s adjacent to the Eden Practice Centre, which offers modern driving range bays, short game areas, and expert tuition—ideal for warming up before your round.

Tournaments

The Eden Course is a great place for amateur golf championships. It has hosted events like the St. Andrews Links Trophy and other competitions by the R&A. With its mix of fun and tradition, it’s a top choice for any golfer visiting St. Andrews.
