Flamingos Golf Course

Overview

Visit the Flamingos Golf Course at Villa Padierna Golf Club in Spain, one of the best golf courses near Marbella. Designed by Antonio García Garrido and opened in 2001, the Flamingos Golf Course is 5,714 metres long and has a par of 71.

This 18-hole championship course offers a mix of challenge, scenic Mediterranean views, and comfort for golfers of all skill levels.

Course Layout and Design

The course winds through a Tuscan-inspired landscape featuring diverse tree species: pines, olives, cypresses, and chestnuts, which line each hole. The sloped greens and shaped fairways create visual drama from every tee.

Changes in height and water features fit naturally with the hillside terrain overlooking the sea. Multiple tee options accommodate players from beginners to experienced players. Everyone can enjoy the course, whether you choose forward or championship tees.

Challenges and Playing Experience

The course presents a fair yet challenging test that rewards precision over power. Narrower fairways on the front nine mean you need to hit your shots carefully. Bunkers and raised greens make it harder to reach the hole, and water hazards add extra difficulty on some holes.

Sea breezes add variability, meaning you need to think about which club to use and how to hit the ball. Bermuda grass fairways provide firm, fast lies, and the smooth, tournament-ready greens offer medium-to-fast speeds with subtle contours influenced by grain.

The course is suitable for mid-handicap golfers while challenging low handicappers. A round usually takes about 4.5 hours.

Signature Holes

Several signature holes define the character of Flamingos Golf Course Villa Padierna. Hole 2, a par 3, requires a precise mid-iron carry over water to a vast green guarded by bunkers and framed by trees. A signature shot that tests nerve and accuracy.

Hole 10, a par 4, has a large lake that makes the fairway very narrow. You have to decide whether to play it safe or take a risk with your first shot. The last hole, Hole 18, lets you start from an elevated tee with beautiful views of the Mediterranean.

You need to avoid bunkers and commit to the line for a satisfying two-putt par to close the round.

Facilities and Amenities

Villa Padierna Golf Club offers excellent facilities to enhance your visit. These include a full driving range, a golf academy, a practice putting green, and a short-game complex. The clubhouse, called Hole 55, is next to the first tee and has a terrace with panoramic sea views.

There is also a well-stocked pro shop, buggies and trolleys for rent (helpful because of the hills), locker rooms, showers, and parking. Guests at the nearby Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Hotel can easily enjoy the golf club’s services.

Hosted Tournaments

The Flamingos Golf Course is well known for hosting prestigious golf events. It was the site of the European Senior Tour in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and the Ladies European Tour Open de España Femenino in 2010.

These tournaments, along with regular amateur and business events, show that it is a top golf course on the Costa del Sol.
