Jameson Golf Links
Overview
Jameson Golf Links offers a championship links golf experience at Portmarnock Resort, located just 15 minutes from Dublin Airport on the shoreline of a rugged peninsula. Set across 203 acres on the historic Jameson Estate of St. Marnocks and close to the Velvet Strand, this 18-hole course offers classic Irish coastal golf with modern updates.
Jameson Golf Links Layout and Design
Originally designed by Bernhard Langer and Stan Eby, the course opened for play in 1995.
Three holes come from a private nine-hole course built by John Jameson in the 1850s. The course is about 7,200–7,266 yards from the championship tees and plays as a par 72.
Natural sloping fairways, firm fescue grasses, deep pot bunkers, and undulating greens define the routing.
The front nine holes are on flatter ground. From the ninth hole onward, the layout climbs into sand dunes.
Six of the final ten holes are next to the sea, bringing coastal winds and high vantage points of Ireland’s Eye, Lambay Island, Howth Head, and the Dublin skyline into constant play.
Blind approaches, risk-reward decisions, and ever-changing conditions test every club in the bag. It remains playable for players of many skill levels.
Memorable Holes
The par-3 9th, one of three holes incorporating elements of the original 1850s Jameson private course, plays toward the coastline with a large, contoured green.
The par-5 12th has a “volcano” green that rewards precise approach shots and delivers coastal views.
The par-4 13th is the course’s stroke index one and demands accuracy under pressure.
The par-4 17th used to be a long par-3. It has a tabletop green defended by bunkers, creating match-play opportunities.

There is a short-game practice area to help players get ready. The pro shop stocks brands including Oscar Jacobson, Galvin Green, and FootJoy, as well as a range of accessories. Hire options include TaylorMade and Titleist rental sets, golf buggies, trolleys, GPS electric trolleys, and professional caddies.
Hosted Tournaments
Jameson Golf Links has hosted notable professional and amateur events. These include the Ladies Irish Open in 2008 and 2009, and the Irish Challenge on the Challenge Tour in 2021.
