Kernow Resort Course

Overview

Located in the Cornish countryside at St. Mellion Estate, the Kernow Resort Course is a great place to play golf and sits alongside the famous Nicklaus Signature Course. First opened in 1976 as the Old Course and redesigned in 2010 by Alan Leather, this par-70 course is 5,309 to 5,782 yards (depending on tee selection).

It offers a rewarding experience suitable for golfers of varying abilities while maintaining genuine strategic depth.

Course Layout and Design

The course has two returning nines with significant elevation changes, particularly on the back nine, creating an engaging round.

The fairways are wide, and the greens are large, so golfers of all levels can enjoy playing. New lakes, bunkers, and USGA-spec putting surfaces ensure a modern test of precision and course management.

Golfers encounter a blend of parkland character with beautiful scenery, including mature trees, streams, and ditches that require careful shots.

The front nine offers a more open feel with opportunities to score, highlighted by early par-5s. The back nine holes introduce greater risk-reward elements and dramatic terrain shifts.

Signature Holes

Signature holes elevate the playing experience.

The par-3 14th is a memorable highlight, presenting a precise tee shot across challenging terrain. The par-4 12th, with its water-guarded green, tests accuracy under pressure. The par-5 8th provides a strong strategic test, rewarding bold play.

Additional risk-reward opportunities on holes 10, 11, and 12. These holes create a stretch that combines driveable par-4s, making the Kernow Resort Course both playable and memorable.

Facilities

Golfers enjoy the facilities at St. Mellion Estate.

There is a well-stocked pro shop, a driving range, short-game practice areas, and putting greens. Buggies are available, and the course supports excellent year-round play thanks to high-quality maintenance.

The estate’s 4-star hotel, luxury spa, award-winning dining options, and leisure amenities make it an ideal destination for golf breaks.

Hosted Tournaments

The Kernow Resort Course has a rich tournament heritage. It has hosted prestigious events such as the Benson & Hedges International Open (part of the European Tour), the Tournament Players Championship, and the PGA Cup.

This history shows the course is of high quality and is known as one of the best second courses at UK golf resorts with 36 holes.
