King Robert the Bruce Course

Overview

Discover the King Robert the Bruce Course at Trump Turnberry, a world-renowned championship links course ranked in the top 50 of Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses. Overlooking the ruins of Turnberry Castle, the said birthplace of Robert the Bruce.
This par-72 course is 7,203 yards across the Ayrshire coastline. Redesigned by Martin Ebert, it features gorse-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and subtly contoured greens that challenge and reward golfers of all abilities.

King Robert the Bruce Course Layout

The layout traces a rich history dating back to 1909. The land was once used as a wartime airbase before it was rebuilt several times. In 2017, Martin Ebert changed the direction of the coastal holes. This update gives golfers great views of the Turnberry Lighthouse, Ailsa Craig, and the Firth of Clyde, making the course feel both historic and modern.

Signature Holes on the King Robert the Bruce Course

The playing experience reaches its peak atop Bain’s Hill.

The eighth hole starts from an elevated tee above the ocean. The ninth drops to a cliff-edge green, widely regarded as one of the most exciting greens at Turnberry. The eleventh tees off with the iconic lighthouse as its focal point.

These signature holes form a memorable stretch that defines the character of the King Robert the Bruce Course. During the round, strategic bunkering, gorse-lined corridors, and ever-changing coastal winds test a player’s accuracy and planning.

Multiple tee options make the course open to all, but it still offers a genuine championship challenge.
