La Hacienda Links

Overview

The Links Course at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort is one of the best golf courses on Spain’s Costa del Sol. As the only links-style course in the region, it offers a distinctive and memorable experience characterised by its coastal setting and strategic design.

First built in 1992 by well-known golf course designers Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, the course underwent a transformation by Kurtis Bowman.

The renovation improved every element from tee to green, adding new bunkers in better spots, wider fairways that enhance wind perception, and one of the largest double greens in Spain.

Now, the 18-hole, par-72 championship course challenges players without being overly difficult, consistently delivering surprises and satisfaction.

The Links Course was named the “Best Golf Course in Spain” at the 2023 World Golf Awards. It ranks among the top ten courses in southern Spain by Top100GolfCourses in 2026.

What really makes the Links Course special is its integration with the surrounding environment. The fairways gently slope down to the Mediterranean Sea, bordering nearly two kilometres of stunning coastline and ending at a sandy beach.

The open setting, shaped by natural topography and the sea breeze, makes for an authentic link experience. You can see Gibraltar, the African coast, and the Mediterranean Sea from many holes, making every round a memorable sight.

Challenges and Highlights

The course offers a balanced test for a variety of skill levels. The wind plays an important role, so club selection and shot placement matter. Each hole has a different par and distance:

Hole 1: Par 5, 456 m (HCP 18)
Hole 5: Par 5, 499 m (HCP 11), a standout signature hole with scenic coastal views.
Hole 6: Par 3, 147 m (HCP 17)
And continuing through Hole 18: Par 5, 459 m (HCP 16).

The list of holes shows that the course is both challenging and beautiful, and good shots are rewarded.

La Hacienda Links Golf Resort makes golf more enjoyable with great amenities.

The practice area has a 72-bay driving range, putting greens, and short-game areas. GPS-equipped buggies and helpful staff make your round more comfortable, letting you focus on playing.

A highlight is Calma, the award-winning halfway house between holes 9 and 10. It was named the “World’s Best Halfway House” at the 2024 World Golf Awards. Players enjoy culinary options and panoramic views of Gibraltar, Africa, and the sea from its terrace.

The clubhouse also has the Sal Verde restaurant, which serves Mediterranean cuisine and offers great views of the course and sea.
