Maryport Golf Club

Overview

Located on the West Coast of Cumbria, Maryport Golf Club offers a great experience for golfers. This course combines the natural beauty of links golf with the calmness of parkland areas. Established in 1905, this 18-hole course has a par of 70 and stretches 5,900 yards from the back tees. It provides a fun challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Whether you want to enjoy a tough game near the Solway Firth or play amidst the Lake District, Maryport Golf Club promises a memorable round of golf.

Course Layout

At Maryport Golf Club, you’ll find a unique mix of two types of holes. The first nine holes are on the links by the coast, where the winds can really change how you hit the ball. You need to be careful and precise because there are hard spots everywhere. Thick gorse bushes line the fairways, streams cross like on Hole 1, and out-of-bounds areas are just waiting to catch you off guard on Hole 3.

Once you get to the back nine, the course turns into a more forgiving parkland setup. This part of the course has rolling greens, dog-leg par 5s, and some elevated shots, which give you a break but still require smart choices. Overall, it’s a fun round that challenges your skills!

Course Challenges

Challenges escalate with environmental elements. Winds can extend par 3s like Hole 5 by 20 yards—and man-made obstacles, including deep bunkers guarding Hole 11 and two-tiered greens on Hole 13. At 402 yards, Hole 15 stands as the course’s par 4. A deceptively straight test where a narrow fairway and blind second shot punish errant drives. This Cumbrian golf course with coastal challenges ensures no two rounds feel the same, rewarding thoughtful play with birdie opportunities on shorter closers like the drivable Hole 18.

Signature Holes

Golfers love the signature holes at Maryport Golf Club. Each hole shows off the club’s unique charm. Hole 1 starts with a bold challenge: players must hit their ball over a bubbling stream to reach an elevated fairway. This sets a strong tone for the game.

On Hole 2, the tee shot goes between crashing waves and thick gorse bushes, adding excitement to the links experience. Hole 15 is the toughest, stretching over 402 yards and requiring a precise shot to reach the sloping green.

Hole 10 is a par 5 with a right dogleg that encourages adventurous players to go for the green in two shots. Meanwhile, Hole 3 offers beautiful views of the Firth, but one wrong move can lead to wet feet!

These holes at Maryport show the best of coastal golf, combining stunning scenery with challenging play.
