Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club
Overview
Located above the town of Menaggio by Lake Como, the Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club is the second-oldest golf club in Italy, founded in 1907. This 18-hole course, which is a par-70 and 5,482 meters long, offers a great mix of history, challenges, and stunning views. It’s a perfect spot for golfers looking for a fun and scenic experience in Northern Italy.
Course Layout and Challenges
The Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club has a traditional design created by English architects, including J.H. Taylor and John Harris, with some updates from Scott Macpherson. The course features narrow fairways, steep hills, and bumpy greens that require careful shots and smart strategies. Surrounded by old trees like pines, oaks, and chestnuts, the hilly landscape adds to the challenge.
There are also water hazards and bunkers that make the game tough, even for experienced golfers. Players need to manage tight fairways and sloping greens, which makes choosing the right club and knowing the course very important. Although the course is not very long, it can be tricky, providing a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
Signature Holes
Among the course’s highlights, the 6th hole, a par-4 dogleg, requires a precise tee shot to avoid dense woodlands, followed by a demanding approach to a bunker-guarded green. The 10th, a downhill par-3, is framed by Lake Como and the Italian Alps, creating a scenic backdrop. The closing 17th and 18th holes, both drivable par-4s, tempt aggressive play but punish errant shots near the historic clubhouse.
Facilities
The club has a clubhouse that showcases English tradition. Inside, you’ll find a restaurant, a cosy bar, and a terrace that looks out over Lake Como. There is also a golf library filled with over 1,200 books, perfect for golf fans. Other great features include a modern driving range with Topgolf technology, a pitching green, a putting green, a pro shop, and a guest house with stunning lake views. Together, these amenities offer a very enjoyable and luxurious experience.
Hosted Tournaments
Menaggio & Cadenabbia hosts events like youth championships and national tournaments. Because of this, it has received a Star for Sporting Merit from CONI. Golfers such as Renato Paratore and Matteo Manassero have played on its beautiful fairways, making it a top choice for golfers.
