Monticello Golf Club
Overview
Welcome to the Monticello Golf Club in Cassina Rizzardi, Lombardy! This is a great golfing spot located near Milan and Lake Como. The club features two 18-hole courses: the Red Course and the Blue Course. Together, they make up a beautiful 36-hole parkland that was designed by Jim Fazio and Baldovino Dassù. Golf here is truly amazing, surrounded by mountain views and more than 200,000 trees spread out over 140 hectares. Come experience a great day of golf!
Course Layout and Challenges
The Red Course is a par-72 and stretches 6,410 meters. It offers both challenges and fun with its wide fairways, carefully placed bunkers, and two artificial lakes. The back nine holes are especially tricky. The par-5 11th hole requires good aim because the fairways are narrower, and the greens are fast and well-kept.
The Blue Course is a bit shorter and more technical. It winds through residential areas, which means you’ll need to be accurate since the fairways are narrower and there’s dense rough to navigate. Both courses are flat and designed to be enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels, but remember, a handicap limit of 36 is needed to play. Come and enjoy a great day of golf!
Signature Holes
The Red Course’s standout feature is the double green shared by the par-5 9th and 18th holes, offering a dramatic finish under the clubhouse terrace’s watchful eye. The Blue Course’s par-3 7th, with a green encircled by water, is a thrilling test of nerve and skill, celebrated for its scenic beauty and strategic design.
Facilities
Monticello Golf Club has a round clubhouse designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni. Inside, you’ll find a pro shop, dining options, and a terrace where you can enjoy great views of the golf course. The club also features practice facilities, like a driving range and a short-game area, so everyone can work on their skills.
Hosted Tournaments and Legacy
Monticello has a rich history as the host of seven Italian Opens. Many golfers, like Billy Casper, Sandy Lyle, Greg Norman, and Severiano Ballesteros, have played there. The course record is an impressive 63, held by Costantino Rocca and Greg Norman, showing just how challenging it can be. The last Italian Open at Monticello took place in 1992, and it was won by Sandy Lyle.
