Moyvalley Golf Club
Overview
Located on the 550-acre Balyna Estate in County Kildare, Ireland, Moyvalley Golf Club provides a golfing experience just 40 minutes from Dublin. Designed by Darren Clarke, the 2011 Open Champion, along with European Golf Design, this par-72 course stretches for 7,370 yards. It is designed to challenge players while offering stunning views all around. If you’re a golfer looking for a top destination in Ireland, Moyvalley Golf Club is a must-visit!
Course Layout and Challenges
Moyvalley Golf Club is designed like a classic seaside links course. It features tall fescue grass, uneven greens, and areas where the ground slopes away, making it quite a challenge. The course is made up of two loops of 9 holes each and offers a mix of risk and reward for golfers of all skill levels. You’ll find water hazards and well-placed bunkers that require precise shots, and the open ground lets the wind add an extra level of difficulty.
Some standout holes include the tough par-4 16th, which is 476 yards long and curves around a lake, making it the hardest hole on the course. Another memorable hole is the par-3 17th, which has large bunkers guarding it. The greens are covered in creeping bent grass, known as some of the best in Ireland, providing a smooth and fast putting experience.
Signature Holes
The most exciting hole at Moyvalley is the 18th, which is a 602-yard par-5. It’s a challenge because water is on both sides of the tee and to the left of the green. This hole shows off Moyvalley’s smart design, encouraging brave shots while punishing mistakes. The par-4 holes 7 and 12 are also impressive, featuring clever layouts and beautiful views, as noted by European Challenge Tour winner Robert Coles.
World-Class Facilities
Moyvalley has practice facilities for golfers. You can hit balls at their driving range with grass tee areas. They have three putting greens that meet USGA standards and a special area for practising your short game, including chipping greens and bunkers.
Their modern Twin Oaks Championship clubhouse offers stunning views of the course all around. Inside, you’ll find a pro shop, a large bar and a restaurant. They also have locker rooms and buggies with GPS to make your experience even better. Plus, the nearby Moyvalley Hotel offers comfortable rooms, perfect for a relaxing golf holiday.

Moyvalley Golf Club has hosted prestigious events, cementing its reputation as a championship venue. It welcomed the 2009 European Challenge Tour’s Challenge of Ireland, won by Robert Coles, and the Irish PGA Championships in 2016 (Tim Rice) and 2017 (Damien McGrane). The course also hosted the All-Ireland Interprovincial Championships in 2022 and 2023, showcasing Ireland’s top amateurs.
