Royal Dornoch Golf Club

Overview

Royal Dornoch Golf Club is a true gem in Scottish golf. Nestled in the stunning and wild landscape of the Scottish Highlands, this links course provides a memorable golfing experience. The Championship Course is designed in a classic way, with a route that goes out and back. Here, the natural hills, sandy soil, and coastal winds work together to challenge every shot you take.

Course Layout

The layout at Royal Dornoch is both challenging and rewarding. Measuring over 6,700 yards from the back tees, the course features fast-running fairways, raised greens, and deep pot bunkers that demand precision and strategy. The routing offers views over the Dornoch Firth, with gorse-lined holes and rolling dunes creating an authentic links atmosphere.

Standout Holes

One of the most famous holes at the course is the par-4 14th, called “Foxy.” This hole has no bunkers but features a green that is protected by natural terrain, making it a great challenge for golfers. Another notable hole is the 6th, known as “Whinny Brae.” From the elevated tee, players get a stunning view and must make a tricky drive over gorse and rolling land.

Facilities

Royal Dornoch has great facilities that you will love. The modern clubhouse is inviting, with food and stunning views of the golf course. There’s a pro shop, skilled instructors to help you, and a practice area where you can improve your game before you hit the fairways. Besides the Championship Course, the club also features the Struie Course, which is beautiful and fun for golfers of all skill levels.

Royal Dornoch has been the site of many important amateur golf tournaments, like the British Amateur Championship and the Northern Open. Although it hasn’t hosted The Open because it’s in a remote area, its reputation in the golf world is still very strong.
