Santana Golf Course

Overview

Santana Golf Club is in Mijas Costa del Sol, between Fuengirola and Marbella. It has an 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course designed by Cabell B. Robinson. The course is about 6,207 meters long. It was built on a former avocado farm and blends with the natural parkland. Golfers can see the Mijas Mountains and are close to the Mediterranean Sea.

Santana Golf Club Layout and Challenges

The layout at Santana Golf Club highlights playability and precision. The fairways are wide and flat, making walking the course simple. There are some water hazards, but not too many.

Paths for golf buggies blend naturally among rows of fruit trees, such as avocado, eucalyptus, orange, lemon, and olive. Local birds, like the calzada eagle, add to the natural setting.

The putting greens are kept in good shape and feature bunkers filled with crushed marble sand for extra challenge. Each hole has two championship tees and two general-play tees for men and women, accommodating various skill levels.

Every hole provides a continuous technical challenge, requiring accurate shot placement, strong course management, and the use of every club in the bag.

Recent maintenance, such as protecting the fairways and rotating golf buggy rules, helps keep the course in great condition year-round.

Signature Holes and Memorable Features

Santana Golf Club features distinctive holes that showcase its diverse design. While pinpointing a single signature hole proves difficult, several stand out.

The 18th hole is tough, with a lake bordering the right side and a narrow approach to the green. The 4th hole offers stunning views and a challenging approach involving the ‘Campillos’ stream.

The 8th hole, stretching 602 meters (658 yards), ranks among the longest on the Costa del Sol and favours longer hitters. The 12th, a par 3 playing downhill to a large undulating green, provides its own memorable test.

Notable landmarks include ancient cork oaks along the 5th hole, some over 500 years old, adding historical depth to the mature landscape.
