Golfers can enjoy a fantastic experience with stunning views of the ocean and sand dunes.

Spanish Point Golf Club was named the Best 9-Hole Golf Course in Munster by the Golfers Guide to Ireland in both 2019 and 2024. This course offers a wonderful mix of history, beauty, and fun challenges. It’s definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a top golf course in County Clare!

Course Layout of Spanish Point Golf Club

Spanish Point Golf Club is a beautiful golf course that stretches over 5,000 yards and has 9 holes with a par of 68. The course is set among natural sand dunes and offers stunning views of the beach at Spanish Point. It’s located just 3 km south of Miltown Malbay on the N67 and only 10 km from popular spots like Lahinch and Doonbeg.

This course is designed to be easy to walk, making it enjoyable for players all year round. Thanks to its great drainage system, you can play here even when the weather is not perfect. Each hole gives you the chance to feel the fresh ocean breeze and take in amazing views, making it perfect for groups, golf societies, or anyone looking for a golf break in West Ireland.

Course Challenges

Spanish Point stands out as one of Ireland’s best links courses because of its fun but challenging design, influenced by strong Atlantic winds and rolling ground. The fairways require accurate shots, while the greens, protected by bunkers, challenge players to be precise with their approaches.

Many golfers appreciate the course’s excellent condition, featuring tough, firm grass that rewards thoughtful play over just hitting hard. The constant wind adds excitement, making even simple shots a test of skill.

Reviewers also love the unique features of the layout, including great par-3 holes and winding paths, which create an enjoyable experience for all skill levels. Although the course is under 5,000 yards, it always provides a strong challenge.

Signature Holes at Spanish Point Golf Club

A visit to this historic course wouldn’t be complete without experiencing its famous holes that show what links golf is all about. The challenging 8th hole, called “Terror,” is just 117 yards long, but don’t let its short length fool you! It has hard winds and a narrow green that sits close to the dunes, making it tough for many players.

The 9th hole is a 160-yard par-3 from the top of Hangman Hill. This hole gives you beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, but you need to be very accurate to stay out of the tough rough below. These holes wind through ancient dunes and highlight the fun and challenging nature of the course, reminding many of classic seaside courses in Scotland.
