The Castle Course
Overview
The Castle Course at St Andrews is a beautiful golf course located by the amazing North Sea. It opened in 2008 and is the newest addition to the famous golf courses in St Andrews, known as the Home of Golf. This course combines a modern design with the classic style of Scottish links golf. Players can enjoy stunning views, exciting hills, and rough terrain that make each round of golf unforgettable. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’ll have a great time here!
Course Layout
The Castle Course is a stunning par-71 golf course created by the well-known designer David McLay Kidd. It covers 6,759 yards from the championship tees and runs along the cliffs to the east of St Andrews. The course has rolling fairways, natural sand traps, and large, fast greens. These greens have lots of hills and curves, which means you need to pay close attention when putting to get the ball in the hole.
Course Difficulty
Golfers will enjoy The Castle Course because it is both challenging and fun. The windy coast, deep bunkers, and changes in height make it important to choose the right club and hit your shots accurately. The first half of the course helps you warm up, while the second half adds more excitement and complexity to the game.
Standout Holes
Among the many highlights is the signature hole – the par-3 17th, which plays across a chasm to a cliff-edge green with the sea as a stunning backdrop. The closing hole, a tough par-5, demands a precise approach shot to an elevated green guarded by bunkers and slopes.
Facilities
The facilities offer a friendly clubhouse with a pro shop, locker rooms, and a modern restaurant that has amazing views of the sea. They also have practice areas, including a putting green and a short game area, perfect for getting ready before your round of golf.
Tournament
The Castle Course may not have hosted big tournaments yet, but it is often included in St Andrews golf packages and amateur events. This makes it a great place to visit for any golf holiday in Scotland!
