North East England Golf Breaks

North East England Golf Breaks

North East England is one of the UK’s most underrated golfing regions. It sits between the Northumberland coast and the countryside around Durham and Newcastle.

The region punches well above its weight. It’s home to a Lee Westwood-designed course that has hosted the British Masters twice. It also has one of England’s oldest true links courses. Add country estates with some of the best-value stay-and-play packages in the UK. It’s a real golfing secret.

We currently have 9 packages available across the region. Choose from quick overnight breaks or longer golfing getaways. It’s easy to see why more golfers are discovering the North East for their next trip.

Why Golf in the North East?

This region rewards golfers who venture beyond the obvious. Close House, just outside Newcastle, is a great example. Its Colt Course has hosted the British Masters twice. The design is modern, and the Tyne Valley backdrop is superb.

Head south to Durham for Ramside Hall. It offers two very different 18-hole tests. The Cathedral Course has water features and views towards Durham Cathedral. The Prince Bishops’ Course is more technical.

For links purists, there’s Seaton Carew Golf Club on the Durham coast. It’s one of the oldest golf clubs in England. This James Braid design has an unusual 22-hole layout, fast greens, and a proper sea breeze.

Inland, Matfen Hall offers a 27-hole championship layout in the Northumberland countryside, with water hazards and tree-lined fairways. Slaley Hall combines two courses with genuine five-star resort comforts.

Access from Newcastle and Durham is easy. The welcome — and often the prices — are warmer than better-known destinations further south. This corner of England is quietly building a strong reputation among UK golfers.
