Overview
Old Head Golf Course stretches over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean near Kinsale, County Cork. This almost-island has many caves beneath the course and is surrounded by cliffs rising about 300 feet above the sea.
Golfers arrive through an old gate and along a driveway lined with hydrangeas and Rosa Rugosa. You’ll see views of the course, the ocean on both sides, and the historic lighthouse ahead.

The course has 18 holes (par-72): five par-5s, five par-3s, and eight par-4s. It measures 5,413 yards on the ladies’ tees to over 7,100 yards from the tips. There’s a minimum of six tee options on every hole to suit players of all abilities.
Nine holes play directly along the clifftops, and all eighteen offer great ocean views. Ever-changing sea breezes create a stern yet fair test for both experienced and higher-handicap players.
The course is prepared daily according to weather conditions. Strategic driving lines, precise approaches, and careful club selection are essential. The open headland and natural contours require focused play.
Memorable Holes on the Old Head Golf Course
Several holes stand out for their drama and demand.
The 12th hole is a long par-5 that many find difficult. The drive must stay down the right side of the fairway, which narrows toward a green perched high above the Atlantic
The 4th hole is a challenging par-4 that follows natural contours and requires an elevated approach.
The 7th hole is a difficult par-3 with limited margin for error.
The 17th is a long par-5 where fairway accuracy is essential on both the drive and second shot.
The 18th is a challenging par-4 with an out-of-bounds area on the right. Golfers need a solid drive and a well-struck approach that must carry onto the front of the green.
These holes, combined with the constant presence of the cliffs and ocean, create a memorable and testing round.
