Overview
Old Head Golf Links is one of Ireland’s most scenic and exclusive golf courses. It sits on a 220-acre headland stretching over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean near Kinsale in County Cork. The course, along with its on-site lodging, dining, and wellness facilities, provides a great location for golf breaks in Ireland. It’s about 45 minutes from Cork Airport.
The Championship Golf Course
Opened in 1997, the course was designed by Ron Kirby, Paddy Merrigan, Eddie Hackett, and others. It has 18 holes and is a par-72, ranging from about 5,400 yards from the front tees to over 7,100 yards from the championship markers.
It features five par-5s, five par-3s, and eight par-4s, with a minimum of six tee options on each hole to accommodate golfers of varying abilities.
Nine holes play directly along the cliffs rising up to 300 feet above the ocean, while every hole delivers clear Atlantic views. Ever-changing coastal winds and elevation shifts create a stern yet fair test of links golf.
There are practice areas, including a driving range, a short-game area, and a putting green. Walking the course with a caddie is recommended, as it can help players enjoy and navigate the unique landscape.
